Derecktor Sloop owners tend to value the boat’s performance-minded sailing character and the confident feel that comes with a racer/cruiser design. The aluminum hull adds to the sense of strength and long-term durability that many sailors appreciate in a serious offshore boat. A three-cabin, three-head layout supports comfortable time aboard and gives the boat a practical cruising side that owners often prize. Generous fuel and water capacity fit the extended-range, self-sufficient style this kind of yacht is known for. The Caterpillar diesel auxiliary rounds out the package with the dependable backup power owners like in a large cruising sailboat.

This Sparkman & Stephens-designed 96’ Derecktor sloop, ALTAIR, is a proven bluewater cruising yacht with timeless lines, robust aluminum construction, and a highly functional layout for comfort, efficient service and privacy between guest accommodations and crew spaces. Built in 1996 and extensively upgraded over time, ALTAIR is equipped for long-range cruising in comfort and style. She offers 3 guest staterooms, separate crew accommodations (all with ensuite heads), robust systems, and a strong pedigree from Sparkman and Stephens & Derecktor Shipyards.
Fully aft on deck aboard ALTAIR, you have the tender storage and crane, the hydraulic passarelle for shore access and access to the water from the retractable swim platform.
Moving forward on the wide side decks, the covered on deck cockpit offers comfortable seating aft, port and starboard with cocktail tables, full wet bar, refrigeration and serving area. The wide pilothouse doors connect the cockpit and pilothouse seamlessly, with comfortable settees port and starboard, excellent visibility to all deck areas and an unrestricted view to the horizon. The comprehensively equipped helm station is on centerline forward with a comfortable helm seat, complete instrumentation and all operating controls within easy reach.
Stepping below from the pilothouse, you enter a bright and welcoming main salon, where an L-shaped settee to port and a convertible high/low table create a comfortable central gathering and dining space, complemented by a wet bar and built-in cabinetry. The varnished mahogany woodwork and bright finished teak & holly cabin sole cultivate the finely crafted classic yacht ambiance that is reflected in all details aboard ALTAIR.
Flowing aft, the guest accommodations are arranged with privacy and practicality in mind. To both port and starboard are two mirrored guest cabins, each fitted with twin berths, generous storage, and ensuite heads with separate showers, providing comfortable and flexible accommodations for family or guests.
Aft of the guest staterooms, you flow into the owner’s area, where the full-beam master suite offers a quiet and spacious retreat. There is a generous centerline queen berth, seating area, and beautiful cabinetry, bookcases, vanity/desk and hanging locker storage. All complemented by an ensuite head with shower, creating a true owner’s stateroom with separation from the guest spaces.
Forward of the salon are the galley, crew mess and crew quarters. The galley is bright and updated with new appliances and an abundance of storage, refrigeration and freezer space for extended voyaging. The cooking, counter and serving areas are well detailed for meal preparation in all conditions. In addition, the crew lounge adjoins the galley with a comfortable seating and dining area.
The crew staterooms include a captain’s cabin with double berth and an additional crew cabin with upper and lower bunks; both staterooms have their own ensuite heads/showers. Direct access down to the workspace and engine room from the crew area ensure efficient systems management without disturbing guests.
Overall, the layout aboard ALTAIR is thoughtfully and beautifully designed to balance owner comfort, guest privacy, and crew efficiency.
