1979 AMF Paceship PY-26 – Exceptional Condition – Inboard Yanmar Diesel – Trailer Included This is an exceptionally well-preserved 1979 Paceship PY-26, and a rare opportunity to own a classic cruising sailboat that has been meticulously maintained. See links to videos below.

If you're unfamiliar with the PY-26, don't let the 26-foot designation fool you. Designed by John Deknatel of C. Raymond Hunt Associates, the PY-26 packs an extraordinary amount of boat into a 26'4" hull. With a 9'6" beam, approximately 6,000-lb displacement, 2,200 lb of ballast and roughly 6'1" standing headroom, this is a substantial little yacht rather than a lightweight daysailer. The design was intended to combine comfortable family cruising accommodations with very respectable sailing performance. Sometimes you feel like you are on a 28 or a even a 30. There is a lot of boat here.

This particular boat is remarkable for its age. The red freeboard is the original OEM gelcoat — not a repaint — and remains in stunning condition for a 1979 boat. The photos and videos speak for themselves. The deck is also in very good condition for its age, and there are no serious cracks or soft spots. Below deck is where I feel the PY-26 really separates itself from many boats in this size range. The cabin is surprisingly spacious, with beautiful original teak, excellent cushions and a teak-tile cabin sole added to complement the original woodwork. The Yanmar fires right up.

The PY-26 was built by Paceship/AMF from the 1970s into the early 1980s, with only about 364 boats produced. The design was so good that Tanzer acquired the molds and developed it into the Tanzer 27. This boat gives you features that are difficult to find together in any 26-footer and not even in most 28ft economy boats like a Catalina: the PY-26 has an 8hp inboard diesel power, roller furling, standing headroom, enclosed marine head, freshwater system, real galley, substantial displacement, comfortable cockpit and a genuinely usable cruising cabin — while still being a boat that can be moved over the road on its own trailer. It has been a fantastic family boat for us, as you can see in the photos. It sails beautifully and is large enough to spend the day — or the weekend — aboard without needing to move up into a 30+ foot boat.

This is not a restoration project. It is a very clean, very complete, well-maintained classic that can be enjoyed now. Serious buyers are welcome to come see it in person. I think the condition will speak for itself.
